Arlington Hamline Underground Stormwater Retention-Infiltration Project Project Summary: The Capitol Region Watershed District in cooperation with Ramsey County and the cities of St. Paul, Roseville and Falcon Heights constructed an Underground Stormwater Retention-Infiltration System in October 2006. The storage and infiltration structures reduce stormwater flow and improve water quality in Como Lake by removing solids and allowing water to seep back into the ground. The system receives stormwater runoff from 47 acres, and has a storage capacity of about 87,000 cubic feet (652,000 gallons).
How Does it Work? Stormwater flows into the underground system from Arlington Avenue (A). Water is treated by a device that allows solids to settle out (B), and then enters stormwater storage pipes where it is allowed to seep back into the ground (C). In a large rainstorm excess stormwater bypasses this system to enter standard storm drains (D).
