SUMMARY:Exploring Rain Garden Plants and Common Weeds
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn some tips for helping care for rain gardens. Ramsey County Master Gardener co-presenters Tiffa Foster and Simba Blood will explore varieties of plants suited for rain gardens and discuss tips for identifying and managing weeds. Attendees will learn more about some of the most common native plants seen in urban rain gardens and will gain new gardening and maintenance tips. This event is a partnership between Ramsey County Master Gardeners and Capitol Region Watershed District Water Stewards. There will be time for questions and discussion following the presentation. \nPresentations will cover: \n\n• Common native plants that do well in rain gardens.\n• Plants desired light conditions (sunny or shady).\n• Plants that do best in different parts of the rain garden.\n• Plant and weed identification tips including how to ID at different times of the growing season.\n\nInformation about your presenters:\nTiffa is a certified Ramsey County Master Gardener and Minnesota Water Steward with Capitol Region Watershed District.\nSimba is a Ramsey County Master Gardener and recently retired from a career of over 20 years at Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District working on their Natural Resources team. \nA recording of this event is available at vimeo.com/942502623

SUMMARY:Boulevard Rain Garden Inspection Training
DESCRIPTION:There are over 300 boulevard rain gardens in Capitol Region Watershed District\, and we’d love your help inspecting them. Your inspection information will be shared with the rain garden grantees to help them care for their gardens. Join CRWD staff to review the basics of rain garden design and learn our scoring and mobile inspection process. \nInspections are entered through a mobile app. Volunteers are expected to upload the app on their mobile device and log in prior to this event. This information will be shared with all who RSVP here. At the training\, staff will walk through a short presentation on rain gardens and the basics for using the app and scoring. Everyone will have a chance to open the app and do a test inspection. Staff will have project area packets for clusters of rain gardens. Volunteers will create teams including a Water Steward and Master Gardener. Your team will select a project area to inspect and share contact information to coordinate when you’d like to conduct your inspections together. The deadline to complete inspections is Sunday\, June 23. Staff will review the results and mail inspection postcards to the homeowners. All gardens are accessible/visible by sidewalk or street.
