SUMMARY:Art + Water Workshop: Como Lake Shadow Puppets with Oanh Vu
DESCRIPTION:Tell a lake tale! Make shadow puppets inspired by your lake memories and cultural stories. Then\, create a show with your puppets using an overhead projector and recorded soundscapes. Acclaimed puppet artist Oanh Vu will lead the workshop. She will share basic puppeteering techniques and the ingredients for crafting a spectacular show featuring your creative mythology. You can arrive anytime during the event to participate in the workshop. \nEnjoy performances of Oanh Vu’s Como Lake Creatures\, a humorous show set at Como Lake starring characters from lake legends and watershed reality. Performances at 11:30 a.m.\, 12:30 p.m.\, and 1:30 p.m. \nWatershed educators will be on hand to share about the real creatures that live in Como Lake\, threats to the lake’s health\, and actions we can take to protect our water. You can join a building tour at 1:00 p.m. to learn more about our Watershed Learning Center and its sustainable features. \nThis drop-in workshop is indoors at Capitol Region Watershed District’s Watershed Learning Center (595 Aldine St.\, Saint Paul\, MN). Light snacks provided. All ages are welcome; kids must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is appreciated but not required. \nOrganized by CRWD Artist-in-Residence Sarah Peters and CRWD Community Engagement Coordinator Maricella Xiong. \nAbout the artist:\nOanh Vu (she/her) is a puppeteer\, educator\, and community organizer. As a 2nd generation Vietnamese American\, she uses humor and the playfulness of puppetry to tell stories of healing and social change for her communities. She is a recipient of the 2025-2028 Jerome Hill Fellow and a Jim Henson Foundation Grant recipient. She got her start in puppetry through Monkeybear’s Harmolodic Workshop and is now the Puppet Lab Co-artistic director at Open Eye Theatre. Her artwork has been shared at theatres\, museums\, & community spaces across the Twin Cities\, including In the Heart of the Beast Theatre\, Mia\, MN Opera\, Open Eye Theatre\, Theater Mu\, Twin Cities Public Television\, and the Walker Art Center.

DESCRIPTION:We Are Water MN is a traveling exhibit that examines water issues across the state and in local communities through personal stories\, histories\, and scientific information. It strengthens Minnesotans’ relationships with water\, exposes visitors to new perspectives\, and increases participation in water stewardship activities. \nWe invite you to visit the exhibit\, hosted by Capitol Region Watershed District (CRWD) from April 23 to June 14\, 2026\, at our Watershed Learning Center. The exhibit will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays\, Wednesdays\, Thursdays\, and Fridays\, and from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. Please note that CRWD will be closed on Memorial Day (Monday\, May 25\, 2026). \nThe exhibit includes over 20 unique pieces. CRWD is on the southwest corner of the Thomas Avenue and Aldine Street intersection. \nParking: CRWD has two parking lots. The east lot is accessible from Aldine Street; the west lot is accessible from Thomas Avenue. On-street parking is also available on Thomas Avenue and Aldine Street. SUMMARY:2026 Boulevard Rain Garden Inspection Training
DESCRIPTION:There are over 300 boulevard rain gardens in Capitol Region Watershed District (CRWD)\, and we’d love your help inspecting them. Your inspection information will be shared with the rain garden grantees to help them care for their gardens. Join CRWD staff to review the basics of rain garden design and learn our scoring and mobile inspection process. \nInspections are entered through a mobile app. Volunteers are expected to download the app on their mobile device and log in before this event. This information will be shared with all who register here. \nAt the training\, staff will give a short presentation on rain gardens and the basics of using the app and scoring. Everyone will have a chance to open the app and do a test inspection. Staff will have project area packets for clusters of rain gardens. Volunteers will create teams\, including a Water Steward and a Garden Education Volunteer. Your team will select a project area to inspect and share contact information to coordinate when you’d like to conduct your inspections together. The deadline to complete inspections is Sunday\, June 21.  \nCRWD staff will review the results and mail inspection postcards to the homeowners. All gardens are accessible/visible by sidewalk or street.
