Blue Thumb Partnership
The Blue Thump Partners are a group of professionals from local governmental units (watershed and conservation districts, cities, counties); non-profit and community organizations; and nursery and landscape professionals. Blue Thumb partners advocate for clean water through the use of native plant raingardens, native plant gardens and shoreline restoration projects. The Partners share print materials, help maintain a website of gardening resources for use by residents, share technical assistance, and work to cultivate a consistent message when communicating with watershed residents. The Blue Thumb Partnership received the 2007 MnGREAT! Governor’s Award, and was one of three finalists for the 2007 Minnesota Environmental Initiative Environmental Education Awards. WSP is a coalition of more than 50 public, private and nonprofit organizations in the metro area formed to educate people about how individual actions affect water quality, and to inspire them to act in protection of their watershed. The Partners collaborate on outreach projects, share resources, and provide the WaterShed exhibits, which are portable, interactive, educational tools that teach about metropolitan watersheds and their connection to human activities.
The Minnesota Water — Let’s Keep It Clean! media campaign, launched in 2007, includes radio and cable television public service announcement spots aimed at educating the public about preventing polluted runoff. This continuing campaign features a specialized website www.cleanwatermn.org with resources for watershed educators and seasonal water quality protection tips for residents.
