Como Lake Signs and Stories Celebration

Let’s celebrate! Join us to experience Como Lake’s new multilingual signs on Thursday, September 3, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Como Lakeside Pavilion (1360 Lexington Pkwy N, Saint Paul, MN 55103).

6:00 p.m. Program
6:30 p.m. Tours; group or self-guided tours of the signs

This project includes eight interpretative signs and an informational kiosk that highlights the lake’s history, water quality, ecosystem, plants, wildlife and nearby rain gardens. Two of the signs feature Dakhóta stories told by relatives of Tanágidaŋ Tó Wíŋ and illustrated by Thomasina TopBear. The rest of the signs were designed in partnership with the City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation and Background Stories.

All the signs are available in English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Karen and Dakhóta. Šišóka Dúta completed the Dakhóta translations. All translations are shared on Como Lake Interpretive Signs, also accessible via a QR code on the signs.

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this exciting new community resource and exploring how these signs help make the stories of Como Lake more accessible and welcoming to all.

The development of the signs was funded by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Water Act Section 319 grant with funding administered by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
